The group Change Penal Code in Japan aims to change attitudes permitting the perpetuation of  sexual violence, often heard through dismissive comments such as  “People say hate when they really mean love” or “It can’t be helped.” We are composed of the following four organizations: Tomorrow Girls Troop, Shiawase Namida, Seibouryoku to Keihou Wo Kangaeru Tojisha No Kai, and Turn-Over Table Ladies (Chabudai Gaeshi Joshi Action). Our goal is to change the societal views towards sexual violence, and to seize the opportunity next January, when the Japanese National Diet, the country’s bicameral legislature, will be discussing changes to the provisions specifically related to sex crimes in the penal code that have barely been amended in over 100 years.
